Certainty Will Search - Searching for a Will

Equiniti has partnered with Certainty Will Search, which is endorsed and recommended by the legal and Will writing profession.

If you’ve lost a loved one and are currently dealing with their estate, it’s important to identify whether a Will exists and that you have the most up-to-date version. This can help make distributing an estate simpler, and avoid issues arising during probate.

To help confirm whether a Will exists or prove you have the most recent version, the Law Society recommends using The National Will Register to search for registered and unregistered Wills.

As an executor or administrator, you have the legal right and duty to distribute the estate correctly. You may be held financially responsible for any mistakes made through any breach of duty.

What does a Certainty Will Search do?

Depending on the service you choose, we will search The National Will Register, which holds five million registered Wills.

If you choose the Combined Will Search, we will also search nationally for Wills, even if they have not been registered. We will contact solicitors and Will Writers across the country, and search in areas where the person who wrote the Will lived, worked or had other connections. In addition, a notification will be placed on the Certainty Missing Will Notice Board, which is accessed daily by 4,500 solicitors registered with Certainty.

The cost of the search can usually be reclaimed from the estate.

Certainty Will Searches can be carried out by any interested party, and cost £58.80 for a Registered Will Search, or £126 for a Combined Will Search.
